Coronavirus odikwa serious. It hit ferociously, unexpectedly, and unavoidably. Paulo Coelho notes, “When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.”
Multi-pronged: Muscle-building is challenging. You must align many components of your life to make it happen – food, water, intense training, supplementation, and rest. Similarly, many elements come into the fight against coronavirus – physical distancing, crowd avoidance, handwashing, masking in public, boosting your immune system, and staying hopeful.
Focused: Spending the whole day at the gym does not build muscle, strength training does. Weight training for 20 to 30 minutes 2 to 3 times a week will produce results in 6 to 8 weeks (www.healthline.com). Target major muscle groups at least twice during these workouts. Similarly, COVID-19 requires specific actions and practices to get flatten the curve.
Intake: You need to take in more calories than you burn in order to build muscle. Increase your protein intake compared to other nutrients. You may also supplement your intake with protein drinks 15 to 20 minutes before you workout. Similarly, you must watch your intake regarding coronavirus? While vitamins are good, negativity is not. You must watch what goes into your system through your eyes, ears, nose, and throat. What are you listening to about COVID-19? Do you think you are invincible? Or are you so afraid that you’ve shutdown?
Time: Muscle-building does not happen overnight. According to experts, it takes beginners about six to eight weeks after starting a strength-training routine, to see noticeable muscle growth. If you try to force it, you may injure yourself. Fighting this coronavirus menace will take time and intense focus.
Rest: Rest is a restorative. It produces hope. Sure, you, like me, are worried about health, job, savings, house payments, bills, school, and other things but we gain nothing by worrying. There’s nothing you can do to hasten the day our world will be COVID-free. Just as a muscle at rest gains resilience so does a mind at rest. When you are doing the best you can, stay hopeful. Build muscle, build resilience.
Keep hope alive so that hope can keep us alive.
