COVID-19 is like Ogunpa

In the dry season, the river is barely a trickle. The riverbed is dry, and people go about their business not caring about the little stream. Similarly, when there is no outbreak, we care nothing about the asymptomatic carriers of the COVID-19 virus. President says, “There is no virus!” Governor says, “we’ve dammed Ogunpa and its tributaries.” Leader says, “it’s all a hoax.” So, we party on like there is no tomorrow.

Then it rains. A full-blown COVID-19 case comes into orbit and all hell breaks. Those who built their houses on the tributaries of Ogunpa lose their homes. Those who claimed, “the virus is under control,” are nowhere to be found. Just as Ogunpa cannot be contained, the virus floods the nation, drowning everything in its path – lives, economies, artifice.

The people watch in horror. Perhaps, we should have physically distanced from Ogunpa’s tributaries. Perhaps, we should have worn our masks, cleansed our hands, and stayed away from crowds. Perhaps, we should have learned from nature.

Stay safe.

Ogunpa has been curtailed since channeling and clearing of the debris that blocked flow of water. So shall Covid be conquered but our people must be alert to their responsibilities of keeping safe and obeying the simple rule.

    Good one
